Garuda Indonesia Set to Open Silangit-Singapore Route on October 28

“The opening of Garuda Indonesia flight service at Silangit Airport is part of Garuda Indonesia’s support for government programs in the success of 10 national priority tourism destinations in line with the government’s target of bringing in 20 million tourists by 2019,” he concluded.

State-owned airline company Garuda Indonesia (GIAA.JK) is set to open the Silangit-Singapore flight route on October 28. This inaugural flight service marks the official operation of Silangit Airport as an international airport.

Silangit-Singapore is part of Garuda Indonesia’s commitment to support government efforts and commitments in developing Silangit’s potential as an international tourism destination. This flight will facilitate the access of international tourists enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Toba.

The Silangit-Singapore flight route is scheduled to be serviced three times a week and operated using Bombardier CRJ 1000 aircraft.

Pahala Mansury, President Director of Garuda Indonesia, said the plan to operate Silangit-Singapore is Garuda Indonesia’s effort to continuously improve intercity and regional connectivity with promising tourism and economic potentials, particularly through direct flight access from Singapore that known as one of the economic centers in Southeast Asia.

“The plan to open the service will certainly increase Silangit connectivity and the surrounding area with other cities in domestic and international as well as increase the contribution of Garuda to increase tourism and economic growth of Silangit and surrounding areas as an international tourism destination,” Pahala said in Jakarta, on Wednesday (10/18/2017).

On this occasion, Pahala said, Garuda Indonesia also expressed its appreciation to the Ministry of Transportation which has facilitated the national aviation industry through improving the infrastructure of airports in Indonesia, particularly Silangit airport, thus enabling Garuda Indonesia can fly to Singapore via Silangit Airport.

“We are also grateful to the Ministry of Tourism which has facilitated and fully supported us in developing the aviation network especially to potential tourism destinations,” said Pahala.

The operation of the flight service from Silangit is expected to maximize the market potential of tourist visit from Singapore.

The Silangit-Singapore flight is a form of Garuda Indonesia collaboration and synergy with the Toba Authority Board which also has full support from the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Transportation.
